EPISODE 3: ENDER’S GAME

EPISODE 3: ENDER’S GAME

In episode three of our podcast we turn our attention to the 1984 book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card and the resulting film adaptation from 2013. Mike and Brent have fun saying “buggers” a lot, we talk about Karen Gillan’s hair and why Mike would like her to pretend that he’s Pee Wee Herman, Brent wins Mike’s con swag and we accurately re-create the Star Trek fight music. Our first listener feedback! Waiting for that second listener…

EPISODE 2: A CANTICLE FOR LEIBOWITZ

EPISODE 2: A CANTICLE FOR LEIBOWITZ

It’s been a long time coming, but here we finally are with the third episode (Episode Number 2) of Area 42, where we tackle Walter Miller Jr’s 1959 novel A CANTICLE FOR LEIBOWITZ. This time, we discuss whether or not this book is superior to DUNE, we debate if Thon Thadeo is an alright guy, we have a lively discussion over the Catholic Church’s middle age treatment of science and learning and we put two-year old children in a gladiator pit with wild pigs. Take a listen and see if you “complete agreely” with either of us.

EPISODE 1: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY

EPISODE 1: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY

So here we are with episode number 1! For this entry we turn our attention to the 1968 film and book 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke respectively. Mike explains why the term “atheist” might not be 100% accurate in describing himself, Brent talks about why he hates the X-Men films and we waffle on for about 45 minutes before realizing that we’re not recording anything! (It’s OK, we just turned the mics on and repeated ourselves).

You might notice some general wonkiness this time around in regards to sound quality, echoing and background noise (but hey, all the levels are the same!). For some reason we didn’t have this problem with episode 0. Oh well. We’re new at this, just bare with us… we hope to have all of these issues resolved in future episodes (maybe not the next one) and we’ll be your favorite podcast in no time… maybe.
